Astor Bristed Gallery is a new art gallery in Arrowtown that holds year round exhibitions. It sells contemporary art, ceramics, limited edition prints and occasional jewellery. It represents a mix of both emerging and established New Zealand artists.

Our aim is to make art accessible for new collectors while continuing to inspire all ages.

We do not display our art via our website as we feel this is not a good representation of the quality of works we have in stock..

We invite you to come into our physical gallery and engage with the space. We are open from 10 - 3, Wednesday through Sunday. You can make an appointment to visit outside of our open hours if this suits better. If this is not possible, we would delight in giving you a personal virtual tour of our gallery. Simply make an appointment with us to do this.

We send out monthly updates and you can request an image catalogue of available works at any time.

Introducing Brad Novak, our newest artist. Pictured here with a piece from his ‘Hybrid’ series. His work explores ‘The subjective nature of identity’ and, in his own words, ‘The Digital Dilemma’. Brad is a public health doctor by profession and an artist by choice. He wants us to “keep our inner child alive”. We now have several of his works available in and exclusive to our gallery. Law Of The Hills Outlaws get a bad rap. There’s never any shortage of prudes with the personalities of pencils who delight in sneering down on outlaws. Good for nothing hippies, freeloaders, bums they say. This is generally people like parking wardens, council regulators and vice principals, the type of character who has no hope of distinguishing what is right from what is merely legal. They will follow the rules even when it’s painfully obvious to everyone that they are full of shit and worst of all they tend to be quite smug about it. And these people, these bureaucratic sticklers for the book, they really don’t deserve the respect that they tend to demand. When you think about it, the ones that deserve respect are the ones with the courage to live outside the law when the law does not match the truth in their hearts. The instant you recognize that laws drafted by mortals have no real relevance in questions of right and wrong you have nothing to fall back on but the instinct of the person who looks at you from the mirror, and then we all become outlaws, for it is the only option left. It’s almost a civic duty to be an outlaw but it’s up to you how far you take it, how much dynamite you require for your own brand of outlaw. Tomorrow is our last day in the gallery pre Christmas. We are open Dec 29 & 30 and then again from Jan 4. If you’d like to visit our gallery outside of these days, send us a message and we can always accomodate you. Sierra’s American heritage is often detectable within her works. With ‘Old Southern Sky’ she sought to embrace this influence and apply the same romanticism depicted in Great American Western art to our own Otago landscapes.
